Sexual Education Program for Argentinean Teenagers: Evaluation of the Implementation Phase. Tetreault, Caroline*,1, 1 UQAM, Brossard, Québec, Canada ABSTRACT- The main goal of our survey was to adapt, implement and evaluate a sexual education program in a developed country such as Argentina. To reach this step, various objectives have been defined. We first chose to use the Canadian program "Juste entre nous" "Just between us" (Haiek et al., 2002), which had already been evaluated, to increase the use of condoms among teenagers. Upon review of the literature regarding sexual behavior of Argentineans teenagers (between 14 and 18 years old), we then adapted and translated this program in Spanish. The implementation was completed in a secondary school of Rosario city, by an Argentinean intervenient, with 120 participants. To evaluate the implementation conditions, we used various methods to collect information, such as: observatory diary, interviews, questionnaires, etc. In order to evaluate, we used the model elaborated by Stake (2004) which involves a description of the implementation before judging it. The criteria on which we will base our judgement are the attitudes of the people involved, (participants, intervenient and school managers) as well as development and the contents of the activities. Furthermore we have used the triangulation of methods and sources, to obtain a more complete view of the phenomenon. Throughout the process, an observation diary has been fulfilled by the researcher. During all encounters (six in total) observation grids have also been completed by the researcher. Some evaluation activities have been scheduled at the end of each meeting to define the level of satisfaction of the participants. At the end of the program, semi-drived interviews have been conducted, for 7 participants randomly selected, 2 directors and the intervenient. Some questionnaires have been fulfilled by 106 participants of the program. The results were first calculated for each methods, following the criteria previously described. We are using the qualitative analysis to read the observation diaries and the interviews. We are proceeding by coding nucleus of meaning, to categorize concepts witch take in count the emerging speech. To analyse the questionnaires, we have looked at the frequencies with SPSS program, considering mainly the age and gender of the candidates. Finally, all the results from the different methods are to be compared during the triangulation, to check convergences and divergences, in order to obtain a better picture and a more accurate judgement. All our results will be revealed during the presentation. Until now, all results obtained show that the implementation of the sexual education program does not meet any major obstacle in the environment where it has been set. For example, almost all parents allowed their children to participate to the program. Following this experience and the analyses we made, we are to make some recommendations concerning the future establishment of such a program in other developed countries. Key words: sex education, adaptation, implantation, program evaluation, teens sexuality |
