Reunion Pop Island: youth-oriented communication on sexual health.

Achminov, Catherine*,1, 1 Regional Office for Health and Social Affairs, Sainte Clotilde de la Reunion, Reunion Island, France

ABSTRACT- INTRODUCTION : This communication will present three short Pop idol-movies used on Reunion Island to promote sexual health programs. The presentation will include the projection of the movies accompanied by an oral presentation. These short movies (5 min. each) are part of the regional sexual health program. They are directed essentially towards Reunionese youth aged between thirteen and eighteen. This teaching tool is geared towards health and education professionals working with young people in secondary education on sexual health and sex-related risks. The documents can be used in short sequences and should allow the audience to intervene spontaneously. While the three movies are independent one from another, they form a serie. Interactive methods are used in planning intervention among young people in order to increase their expression and foster dialogue with them. This project was approved by all institutional partners. It is an entirely local production. The cost of the project is 220.000 euros (357,960 CAD), of which 60% was used for salary costs. These short movies were broadcasted on local television at peak hour 15 times each in June 2204 and January 2005. GENERAL objective: To help the audience to make pertinent choices relevant to their situation. SPECIFIC objectives of each film: 1.Lendemain de fete (Morning after) Presenting an information on emergency contraception 2.En studio (In studio) Familiarizing boys with contraception and co-responsibility. 3.En scene (On stage) Encouraging understanding and discussion of sexuality in the family.
