Knowledge, attitude, behaviour and practice of community groups towards sex, sexualilty and HIV. Patel, Rakeshbhai*,1, 1 Suhasita Manav Seva Trust, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India ABSTRACT- Objective: To know the awareness level for HIV/AIDS among teachers. Methodology: A structured proforma relating the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice about HIV/AIDS was given to teachers of secondary and higher secondary schools of Ahmedabad at their meeting with the objective to know their knowledge regarding AIDS. Study design: Cross-sectional study Setting: Meeting of teachers of secondary and higher secondary school teachers of Ahmedabad city. Study group: Teachers attending the meeting Sample size: 182 Statistical analysis: Mean, Standard deviation, Proportion, Chi-square test using statistical software Epi-info. Results: 182 teachers were assessed, 68% were males and 32% were females.88% knew that AIDS could be transmitted by having multiple sex partner. 79% knew about risk of HIV by infected blood transfusion and use of contaminated needles. 19% of males and 8% of females believe that AIDS can be transmitted by kissing to an AIDS patient. 12% of females and 20% of male teachers believe that an HIV patient must not be allowed to do any job or business. This shows the level of social stigma towards the people leaving with HIV/AIDS among such highly educated study group. Only 67% of respondents knew that AIDS could be prevented by proper use of condom. Many more variable regarding spread, prevention, treatment, mode of information for AIDS were assessed among this study group.
