ABSTRACT- The purpose of this studies tries to analyze the relationships between landscape ecological structure indexes and air quality in the urban area. The greenway and various vegetation structures enhance the ecological of the fragmental habitat and the species diversity in an urban area. The vegetation corridors plays the role of colonizing corridors of urban species, filters the air pollutant materials, provides good view and changes the regional microclimate. The factors that affect functions of greenway corridors include the vegetation structure, the vegetation types (trees, shrubs, groundcovers), and the width of the corridor, the density, the shape, the curvilinear of the greenway. The relationship between landscape ecological metrics and air quality were tested, results show significant relationship between air qualities (PM10, CO, SO2) and vegetation cover under different scale hierarchy (250m, 500m, 1000m). The relationships were tested by digitizing the 1/5000 aero photography maps and check with on-site investigation. Air-quality data were adopted from the official Environment Protect Agency (EPA) of Taiwan. Finally, this study suggests the vegetation cover and types; the density and the curvilinear of the greenway are influential factors in achieving good air quality in the urban areas.
